Re: boots
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 12:21 AMI have a friend here in Japan that wears some tiny size herself, and she always tries to buy vintage shoes.
Unfortunately in Japan, she is too small for all the shoes in the shops, and i am too big! :(
It's interesting to see how, with such a homogenous population, the size variation is very slim.
Have you any recommendations for shoe shopping for tiny feets? -

Re: boots
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 10:29 AMI've only found two ways to get adult styled shoes in my size...well three
1.) www.cinderellaofboston.com
The shoes are basic adult styles, nothing fun or interesting. It seems a little pricey to me because the quality of supplies used is not very high...only a little better than payless
2.) Naturalizer now sells many shoes in size four. Unfortunately I haven't found an offline store, to try and see what the sizing is like in real life.
3.) buy a ticket to scotland/ireland/england i've had a little more success finding shoes in adult styles in their stores. But i haven't found any playa shoes, or and shoes from online UK companies that were in the right size
and wow lying bare...i've never met anyone else either...maybe we're related ? -

Re: boots
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 1:37 PMnever know... but I have family from Scotland and have bought my dancing ghilles there it was the only place that had em in my size... as for a place to buy for tiny feet... there used to be a great show store called LEEDS.. but I dont know if they exist anymore..... -

Re: boots
Tue, May 4, 2004 - 9:08 AMI'm surprised you have trouble buying ghillies - the competition world is all about child dancers and they have tiny feet - I have a lot of trouble finding them in the larger sizes... :) of course I wear Irish soft shoes rather than scottish ghillies... :)

Sat, May 1, 2004 - 1:00 PMI drool over the kiddy shoes at the Target everytime Iwww.ethanocentric.com/ashcroft/index.php
go there. Definitely worth checking out if you can actually wear them! Sometimes Payless Shoes also has adorable boots for kids, with glitters and sparklies all over that I wish came in my size. -

Fri, May 7, 2004 - 11:52 PMyou. go to the nearest Shoe pavilion or ross, I always see genuine Doc Martins in cherry red or yellow, or hot pink or some other fabulous color marked down from $70 to $5 because they only have them in tiny sizes. The shoe pavilion on san antonio road in mountain vew is where I saw them last. I keep picking up 5's and yelling WHY AM I 9AAA!? WHY?

Re: boots
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 11:09 AMI read some advice from a large-and-lovely burlesque dancer (with extra small feet) who was talking about vintage boots, and her advice could help you. She said that she would buy whatever boots she loved (and that fit, of course), then take them to a shoe repair place/cobbler and have them put in an extra piece of leather/pleather/whatever into the calf part. You do have to cut the boot in the back to do this but...the only hard part was finding a matching piece of material--or at least one that would go with the boot material. I thought that was a great idea--'specially since some of those vintage boots appear to come from ladies with extremely small calves! -
-
Re: boots
Fri, April 30, 2004 - 1:00 PMI have fitted boots to fit me this way, and it works!!! Just take boots that fit you, and don't zip/buckle all the way up, and an extra piece of leather to your local shoe repair store and they will take care of the rest. You can also find boots that seem to fit huge dancing calves at www.bearclawmfg.com Happy boot hunting! -

Re: boots
Wed, May 5, 2004 - 11:51 PMgot some hot topic black platforms last year and walked miles in them in pain.(but damn I looked good!) Shoe guy said the solid sole prevents the foot from bending while walking and can cause ball of foot nerve pain. Solution: get a size up and pad up the walking surface so your foot will move in there more naturally. That did the trick for me. And don't forget hot weather foot swelling issues!

Re: boots
Wed, May 12, 2004 - 8:14 PMOk...how about if you're feet are size 9..but you've got small calves? My boots all have a big gap @ the top because they're a size 9...but i can't find any that fit thin legs! I know.I know.boohoo..but its STILL frustrating.Any brands/stores? -

Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 5:56 PMi have the exact same problem! This is why I never buy boots.
-
Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 6:01 PMYOu could ride a bike... that would make your calves bigger. My calves are all muscle and fill out boots nicely, if the boots aren't too small. Try getting ones that both lace and zip, so you can adjust the fit. I saw a pair at ross by BOGO that had a lot of adjustment room, they went from being way to tiny to fitting my Swartzenegger like calves.

Re: boots
Fri, May 21, 2004 - 11:33 AMIf you like the look of tall black leather equestrienne boots, they do come in narrow and wide calf variations, as well as the standard. (I'm right on the edge between slim and regular calf, so I get slim calf and get 'em stretched at a shoe shop--no amount of horseback riding, biking, and backpacking has enlarged my calves)
Two brands off the top of my head: Effingham (lower price end of the scale) and Dehner (top of the line).
try Vista Madera feed: home.pacbell.net/vistatck/index.html
or Orinda village Horse shop: www.orindavillagehorseshop.com/ap...htm

Re: boots
Wed, May 26, 2004 - 8:48 PMI have this same problem (8 to 8.5 foot and weensy, thin calves no matter how much I exercise--some of us are just built lean in some places) and I finally found a pair of freaking boots that fit properly! They are synthetic stretch boots I got at Shoe Pavilion for $20. Manufacturer is Wanted. www.wantedshoes.com - but I cannot find them on their site anymore! Maybe ask around at discount places like the Pavilion as this is clearly last year's style? (Also, you're kind of stuck going to places like that right now anyway, as the "season" for good boots is over.)
The biggest drawback to these shoes & to many stretch boots: very fake-y synthetic is surely going to melt like mad if anywhere too near flame -- meaning I won't be wearing them on the Playa much, if at all, personally. But if you ain't spinning/breathing/eating/dancing with fire and are careful near others' open flames, you should be okay.
Also: a big ol' "What They Said" to whoever replied suggestion getting the bots fit to you. A good shoe repair store can do this it is easier to cut down a too-big calf than for them to build it up, too. And, youmight be surprised how little some shops will charge for something like this. Look for one that has been around a long time, like an old family business with a good reputation.

Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 9:19 AMOkay...I am a 6.5 double E. My husband says I have adorable little goat hooves. I grew up barefoot. Wide, healthy feet, high arch, don't fit into the majority of shoes (that I wear anyway...and hurt for it). I am looking for boots too. Any ideas? I want an elevator sole, demon from hell look. -

Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 9:25 AMOh, and I have thick, strong calves, too. -
-
Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 5:33 PMas stated above, i think, any good , local shoe repair man will cut a chunk out of the top and put in as much comfy color matched elastic as you like. I'm a hefty calfer too. (Why do they make so many boots thin as pencils? shortage of materials? Whaaat?)
and do think about easy on and off , if you have camps with dust tracking policies. Last year I had tall white difficult lace ups that kept me out of a chilly RV on a blazing afternoon... -

Re: boots
Thu, May 13, 2004 - 6:05 PMBTW, did you know that your feet change size all the time? I've been an 8 and a half or a nine and sometimes even a ten forever, and now Im an 8, so weird. -

Re: boots
Fri, May 14, 2004 - 3:51 PMI have been a boot freak since about 94.
I have a small flat foot, long toes, and wide calves.... FREAKING HARD TO FIND SOMETHING FOR THAT RIGHT....
here are a few tips...
Sketchers make a pleather pull up stretch boot... you can rave in them, you can walk in them, you can even breakdance with the sukkas on... or if your a burner, you can get em as dusty and scrappy as you wish, run some H20 over them, and they're good as new.
pull up stretchy platform boots are the best bet for those of us with the curse~ed perportions.
Also don't discredit payless in October they get shipments in of the streatchy pull ups... although they never quite get the highth right. (smelly though... don't breathe)
Torrid is off the hook, I agree. -

Re: boots
Sat, May 15, 2004 - 12:48 PMI found mine at a Sketcher outlet mall in Camarillo Ca, just outside of Oxnard. But I bet any mall where you are that carries shoe seconds or irregulars is a better bet.
Also the Mervyns and Robinsons May Shoe Dept. has started to carry streatch boots in the months of Sept-dec
