Re: the utlimate playa coat
Wed, August 19, 2009 - 4:31 PMcheck out thrift stores that are off the beaten path. the goodwill on international in oakland had some good finds last year. my guess is that stores in SF and berkeley, etc. will already be picked over. another option is forking over some cash for a fancy burner coat from a local artist.
good luck!

Fri, August 21, 2009 - 3:21 AMIf you can't afford a custom coat, or thrift stores aren't helping, Burlington Coat Factory has some pretty great faux fur options, which also look good off-playa.
I bought one for my virgin-burner sister today! :D

Fri, August 21, 2009 - 12:28 PMsofiah, i would seriously try to secure a coat before you get here, unless you have plenty of time to comb the thrift stores. the ones in SF are pretty picked over by this point... you're not going to find your dream coat. you may find *something" that will work, but it's iffy!
there are only a couple on CL right now:
sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/clo...943.html
sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/clo...550.html
there may be more options, just wanted to warn you if you thought you'd easily be able to find what you want when you get to the bay area...
good luck!!

Re: the utlimate playa coat
Sat, August 22, 2009 - 1:20 AMDon't assume you need a big long coat, or a fur. Even a short jacket that's warm will do if you have bottoms and layers to work with. I find a long coat or a big fur can be a pain in the ass when you're riding a bike. Bring layers you love and have one overcoat, preferably not black... go for something light or bright... but a jacket or coat that's roomy enough to fit over your layers. With pockets. Must Have Pockets.
