Please read below...Enterprise SCREWED me and I am desperate for help. I live in Oakland, CA...any and all help appreciated. I am on my volunteer shift today and won't be back online until this evening, but please...any suggestions are welcome!!
So, today I called Enterprise to confirm my reservation that I made a few months ago, only to be told that they never let their vans/SUV's off-road--especially to Burning Man. This is after I **specifically** called the local branch to tell them I was taking it to Burning Man and what their rules were concerning that. At the time, I was told it was absolutely no problem (with a few stipulations) and we had it all worked out. Turns out someone fucked up.
They got a good chewing-out from me, but the end result is still that Ryan and I have no vehicle to take to the playa. I drive a Mini, which won't hold even a third of the stuff we are bringing even if we tented it. So I am asking my wonderful community--does anyone have ANY suggestions? I just found this all out this morning and cannot be online most of today, so just wanted to start getting the ball rolling before I dig into more research tonight after my volunteer shift. Does anyone have a vehicle they'd be willing to rent us? Know of a smaller local rental company that will allow a van or truck to go to the playa? Could a Mini haul a small trailer? ANY and ALL suggestions and advice are more than welcome!!!!
Thank you and I really, really hope I see you there!

Re: HELP! Burning Man Transportation Crisis
Tue, August 25, 2009 - 10:20 AMThat totally sucks. And I understand why you would want to clear it with them that you are taking the van to Burning Man - but I have to say, I wouldn't mention it if you are looking for a rental. Think of the drive from the paved road to your camp as a really long driveway..... not going off road!
My boyfriend and I have rented a cargo van from Enterprise in Oakland the last 2 years (and he rented from them for years before that) and we took the van out to BRC - and we were thorough with cleaning it when we got back at a carwash - inside and out - and there were no problems with returning it.
We are NOT renting from the Oakland Enterprise this year, because my boyfriend no longer lives in Oakland. But you might consider calling a different Enterprise in the Bay Area....? Enterprise definitely seems to be the cheapest option out there if you are unable to rent a van privately.
Good Luck!!

Re: HELP! Burning Man Transportation Crisis
Tue, August 25, 2009 - 5:03 PMGibson - my friend has an extra car rental reservation at enterprise in oakland.
we ended up making a few reservations just in case we found a better more convenient deal - which we did a few weeks ago.
The reservation is still available but we need to cancel/move it into someone else's name today or tomorrow.
Call me if you still need help!
