Back again for our fifth year on the Playa, the Black Rock Beacon is gearing up for Black Rock City 2009, bringing you a unique mix of news, opinions, photography and smoked-pork-product trivia.
Fueled by ridiculous amounts of non-vegan-friendly, high-protein, chemically preserved porcine goodness, we keep tabs on what's going up and down on the Playa. We're planning five issues (six if somebody burns the Man early), and we have some new equipment that should sharpen up our photo quality.
So you're wondering, where do YOU fit it? Well, we hope you'll enjoy reading us as you explore the city, and maybe drop by during the 23 3/4 hours we're frying up our namesake . But if you want MORE, we can dish it out. We need a few good Burners to help us write, edit, produce, and distribute the paper, and to give us a hand with the preparation and consumption of tasty breakfast meats. Beginners welcome, except in the kitchen. And, um, well, if you like our paper and want to give us a hand via PayPal, we're up for that too.
Contact information and copies of all our past issues are available on our website at www.blackrockbeacon.org. There's news to work on now -- for the web and the paper -- so if you want to be part of the longest-running daily on the Playa, drop by and say hi.
Lux. Veritas. Lardum.

Thu, July 23, 2009 - 2:12 PMHave you ever wanted to be a newspaper girl? We can make your dream come true!
It's the best job on the playa. You take the morning newspaper to a portion of the city and everyone loves you. Best way to get schwag and find out how much burners love news AND gossip!
Here's the important link for volunteering to be a newspaper carrier - the best job on the playa.
docs.google.com/Doc &hl=en
Just go to the link and enter your name in the day that you'd like to volunteer or pick a couple of days then save the document. All the information you need is on that page.
Well, one piece of information is still unavailable. Just like all the other theme camps, we haven't officially got our location yet, but we've been in the 9:00 plaza for the last 4 years so it's likely that's where we'll be this time too. -

Re: +++Smells like BeACON+++
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 5:18 PMThis is a great job to volunteer for, especially if you are a first time Burning Man participant!
Stop by the Black Rock Beacon office one morning and pick a neighborhood. Try picking a neighborhood that you haven't explored yet. Grab a bunch of newspapers, head out to your selected neighborhood and start delivering papers!
People are so happy to receive the paper! They will ask you to sit down, have some breakfast, a drink, etc.
This is a great way to meet people and discover the 'hoods of Black Rock City!
