This year (as with many other folks) has not been a good year for me. I won’t go into the drama of why but it has been extremely stressful. I believe it’s time I move on and away from Los Angeles. However I am completely unsure what cities to consider. If anyone can kindly offer some suggestions I would be very appreciative. Some factors for me. I have bad asthma so I must take that into account. My car is in marketing and I would like to at least try to stay in that field somehow. Thank you in advance.

Re: Relocation advice.
Sat, August 1, 2009 - 12:35 AMPortland is rather nice. But it rains pretty much 7 months out of the year. and we got some unemployment. Still, its a nice medium sized city with a lot of creative types here and there.

Sat, August 1, 2009 - 7:11 AMI understand that asthmatics are more comfortable in dry climates (an ex of mine went to Arizona to live when his got really bad).
Some of the wimmens around here are from the southwest - are there any testimonials? Any Toast-y grrrlz?

Sat, August 1, 2009 - 3:27 PMi don't know about asthma (i have it but it's mostly cat allergy-induced so i can avoid/control it) -- but i just moved to nashville from san francisco six weeks ago. i came with friends, planning it to be just six months, but so far, i love the neighborhood i'm living in, five points in east nashville, a transitional historical residential area where the hipsters and creative folks have convened.
i absolutely love it, and it has given me a complete energy shift. in san francisco, i'd had a hard winter, but coming here really re-energized me. i highly recommend it.

Re: Relocation advice.
Sat, August 1, 2009 - 6:51 PMPortland Portland!! If you can stand the weather, it's an awesome city. I only live here part time (doing the college thing, you know how it is), but it's my favorite out of all the cities I've ever been to (the bay area coming in close second). Even though the winter/spring weather can be awful, summers here are gorgeous!
Do you know what type of environmental factors aggravate your asthma the most? Portland definitely has more pollen in the air than LA, but on the other hand, it's got a LOT less pollution than most major cities.

Mon, August 3, 2009 - 12:14 PMPortland is great and wonderful and I wouldn't live anywhere else, but I can tell you that the moisture and humidity can aggravate asthma and both our unemployment and cost of living are on the high side.

Re: Relocation advice.
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 10:33 PMThe Bay area is looking more and more promising. I may stay or another month or two so I can learn HTML & CSS... I believe that will help me find a job no matter where I am at.

Re: Relocation advice.
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 10:23 PMI also live in Portland and would say it's an extremely livable city. There are a couple large marketing firms here (W+K is a fantastic advertising company), but unemployment is quite high. However, if you do have specialized talents, I would say that it's a beautiful city with kind people and good air quality. I recommend a visit -- clearly, there are tons of Burners! -

Re: Relocation advice.
Wed, August 5, 2009 - 2:44 PMSo far the areas I am going to consider (if I really do move) is Portland, back to Seattle, San Diego and even the Bay area for some pocket communities I've found and have a good feeling about. For right now I'm going to spend what is left of my savings on me and my career. I think for the now- that's the best decision I can make.
