I have so many great memories this year it is hard to pick just one.
Tuesday night was a special night where a group of us went out and just cavorted and played like kids. "Oooh, what is happening over there?" was the theme for the night. We went from place to place and each place was delightful! My favorite memories that night were being in a dome where there was a man playing an electric violin and a man playing an electric cello. Oh man, they were so freakin' good! I could have stayed there all night long listening to them. I have never heard such great sounds as the sounds I heard that night. I would look around and everyone listening seemed to be in a state of bliss.
My second memory was of this pavilion, where when you entered it, a laser would follow you and make patterns on the ground as you moved. It also made sounds, so it would make this music as you moved too! That was so much fun and everyone would dance and then join hands and dance in a circle and then run in the circle and the lights and the music would speed up. It was crazy! And it was joyful! I loved it!
I would love to hear about some of your favorite moments out there at BRC this year. Or any year for that matter!

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 11:35 AMI agree so many great memories. One of my favorite memories was watching the pure joy Arell had at the laser pavilion on tuesday. Tuesday was amazing meeting a group of wonderful people. Walking across the rope bridge despite my fear of heights . The electric violin and cello were mesmerizing. Ending up at centre camp and watching the energy of two people come together to create amazing music.
Thursday night would be my second favorite. I thought I had lost everyone I had ventured out with and was destined to explore on my own. Then, as only could happen on the playa, I slowly reconnected at just the right moments with the great group of people I went out with. Also walking a playa marathon that night with good company and ending the evening with conjured up pancakes at sunrise.
There was also something stronger this year than individual memories it was more of a general feeling I had. I felt connected with people for the first time in months. I learned how to giggle and laugh aloud again. I learned how to listen, observe and find peace. -

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 9:02 PMmy favorite memory....hmmm...I had a pretty fantastic burn night this year. I was surprised, because usually I'm not as excited about the burn as everyone else. This year was good. We all got really silly and belligerent in the best possible way. We sat on a big scaffolding to watch the man burn, and everyone was yelling and singing and hurling good-natured insults at each other. It was great. After hours of dancing I decided to head home earlier than everyone else. As I was walking back across the playa I ran into three wonderful guys who were handing out fresh baked cupcakes. I have never been so excited about cupcakes in my life....and these were good. Red velvet with homemade frosting!

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Sat, September 26, 2009 - 10:41 AMYes...so many favorites this year, i'll just pick one cute one, not necessarily favorite, but it's fun to re-live all the good moments...
I was in center camp cafe' and I saw lee-loo, from the movie Fifth Element. She was perfect (see photo here: www.mccullagh.org/photo/1ds...th-element ) I was behind her as another woman approached. This other woman had gumball machine boobs as part of an elaborate costume which I can't quite remember or describe. But basically, you put a coin in her belly button and a gumball comes out from her boob. So she showed Lee-loo how to do it and lee-loo gets her gumball. Then, and this was my favorite part of the moment, Lee-Loo mimes, with a few choice sounds from her alien language, "do i suck this or chew it?" and it was so funny, it cracks me up just to think of it...i don't know if i can convey it...i guess if you can imagine this conversation in your head, you, too, may find it funny. The gumball lady took her quite seriously, and that's when i found out, they were sucky candies, not gumballs.

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 2:45 PMOne of my favorite memories was watching the Battle of the Marching Bands in Center Camp on Friday night and cheering on our hometown heroes, March Fourth Marching Band. I will never think of "Kumbaya" the same way again.
Getting up the nerve to go down the big slide and talking my compatriots into joining me.
Watching the sun rise during my first ever White Processional and turning around to take a picture, only to find someone I work with walking right behind me.
But my absolute favorite memory, that is making me giggle even as I type this, is all seven of our group dressing up in afros and muumuus and wandering the playa as Mrs. Roper, Party of Seven. Dancing and singing to Abba's Dancing Queen at one camp, randomly stumbling into "big hair night" at Bad Idea Theater, and cracking each other the hell up all night. I don't think anybody got the joke, but damn that was funny! (I'll post a pic of me and my friend, who started the Roper posse idea) -

My favorite memories include your comfort and companionship at the Temple.

Too many favorites
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 5:06 PMThis was my first Burn and after living a nomadic lifestyle, Black Rock City is the only place I've ever felt at home. I feel like every hour was filled with so many favorite memories.
Tuesday night was spectacular though. I never expected to get a playa name the second night I was there but the planets aligned in formulating a name to fit my identity! After I received my name, I turn to my right and meet one of my playa parents, Ranger Triumph. He led me on an adventure walk to the Man. That was my first night really allowing myself to take in the splendors and enormity of everything Burning Man has to offer. I don't think I've ever felt safer.
I remember distinctly asking Ranger Triumph if there was a Burning Woman. He thought about it and replied "No" with surprise. Good to know a Burning Woman exists somewhere in the virtual world. -

Re: Too many favorites
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 11:51 PMone of my fave moments (there are soooo many)...
i had extra room in my truck so i went by the reno airport's burner greeting station and signed up to transport newbies without rides.
i met this amazing woman who had just flown in from a vacation in the galapagos islands. she had never been to brc before and was pretty clueless about burning man but very resourceful and fearless. she didn't know where to meet her friend who'd invited her or the name of her camp or the address.
we arrived at brc just as i'd planned - in time for me to attend the kick ass wednesday night party at the queer girls camp.
i really wanted to go to the straponathon at camp beaverton but i was hesitant to leave the newbie all by herself. so instead of going to the party i kinda stayed and babysat her at center camp till she figured out what to do.
so there i was feeling sorry for myself for missing my party and i just decided to go and see if there was any of it left going on. it was very late!
lo and behold, there were still a few partiers there even though the event was long over (and i found out they had to turn ppl away since they had an overflow crowd!)
i ended up talking half the night (and hooking up with) with some really cool women! and watching some amazing strap on action which seriously educated me!

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Tue, November 3, 2009 - 5:48 PMMine was our "Renegade Build Crew" evenings. I was camped with Bob's Rainforest and had early entries. We would build our stuff all day. Then we would eat dinner and some of us would grab our tool belts and head out on what we called "Renegade Building" - we'd go find camps with construction lights on and say, "You've got a crew of 6 (8, 10) of us. What do you want done?" We helped build so many different camps and eventually were being requested by folks. That rocked!
The other one was "adopting" one of the guys camped next to us. We arrived at dawn on Thursday. He showed up Thursday night. The rest of his camp was supposed to arrive the next day and didn't show until Sunday. We adopted him and hung with himi the entire time. In fact, he's arriving tomorrow in New Zealand to visit me!! Yay for wonderful new playa friends. -

Re: What Was Your Favorite Memory on The Playa?
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 12:14 PMlove reading these stories!!!
a lot of amazing stories happened this year for me....but one highlight, was going on the omnibus with my GF kitty on wednsday, her friends had brought the bus (a bunch of brits of course!) and we rode with them for what seemed like hours, and they had crazy "old ladies" sweeping up the dust, so hilarious. They then sang brit songs I didn't know, and had a ton of laughs!
On friday we had a really magical time too...after waiting for the rocket for a bit we decided to head out to the slide and then the storm kept brewing....we landed underneath the slide on a couch swing! and an amazing aerial performance started soon after! and awesome art car djs....I still couldn't believe these people performing in that storm!!! mad respect...and also met another cool couple Snoop and Jay, they were on some hallucinagens also and we all hung out for hours laughing our asses off....I'll never forget her saying it was "the best night of her life" even though we were in this crazy dust storm AND she was on her period...I thought that was so beautiful. Such beauty!!!!
Oh, and the most favorite food i had was paratha's and home made chana masala....And Cock and waffles ham/cheese/waffle sandwich! YUMMM

getting out of my car upon arrival and looking around around my neighborhood...far off a trio of tiny blurs running to chase down a run-away easy up......seeing nothing else ...empty space...and a row of portos off in the distance...i turned and looked at my car (her 1st trip to the playa)...and said...well, we made it girrl!!! and as the wind picked up, and i lifted my bandana...i whispered...home at last.
