Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 1:40 PMThere is an old post on shoes for playa... it has many links to platform boots. But I also want any new links people have!! I'm looking for something groovy too! And they have to be flat platforms! -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 2:42 PMHow funny, I was just going to put the same question out there. I found a lot of great, reasonably priced, black platform boots at:
www.snaz75.com/
or -
www.electriqueboutique.com/
I'm having problems finding FLAT or 1-2" heel black boots, lace up to the knee (not mid-shin), prefer with zipper for easy in/out. I need something cute, sexy but can ride a bike in. I just can't manage a pedal in platforms. Any additional suggestions? -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 3:31 PMAlso try
www.funkefeet.com
This year will be my first for wearing platforms on the Playa! If I fall over, please pick me up!
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 18, 2005 - 6:04 PMivy, that's exactly what i'm looking for! please post if you find those kinds of boots...it seems like everything has 4-5" platforms...i'm not too interested in tipping over the whole time! i'll let you know if i find anything!

Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, August 19, 2005 - 8:02 AMHow about day time when it's hot? Are boots going to be too hot for the day time? I'm a virgin! -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, August 19, 2005 - 9:27 AMYes, they can get hot but I never really found them to be "too hot". I would take them off when lounging around camp or wear slip on shoes if I needed a breather.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 12:50 AMYES!
I haven't worn mine to the playa yet, but have heard from many folks who have...
NEW ROCK BOOTS.
They kick ARSE. They are flat heeled, go with everything (giant clunky steel toed black buckle-lace-zip boots go with everything, really), they LOOK fabulous, and they are weighted a little differently, so it's really easy to walk in them. They fit like gloves, due to the fact that you buckle them to size, lace them to size, and then leave those alone and use the handy side-zip to get in and out of them.
Mine:

-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 11:52 AMthey're not heavy? they look like they weigh a million pounds!
also, where did you get them? -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 1:19 PMThe new rocks are quite nice, but they are spendy! you have to be willing to commit to your boots! -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 4:35 PMI have a pair of New Rocks and I absolutely adore them. they have velcro closures oso they're easy to get in and out of. and they're generally badass.
BUT the cost me around $200 if I remember correctly (I've had them for years) and the are quite heavy. which is why I'm not bringing them to the playa. I don't want to a) risk mucking them up and b) get leg cramps from hauling around 5lb leg weights.
however, that might just be my particular model of boot. they are exactly like this, but without the spikes: www.newrockstore.com/zona1/c..._ACE.jpg
-
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 10:31 PMThey are somewhat heavy, but they are weighted so that they just feel comfortable and secure--- not like you're dragging around heavy things. But yeah, they're BIG BOOTS. You definitely know you're wearing them.
I got mine in San Francisco, at Daljeet's on Haight Street. Other shops on Haight are way more expensive. But they will set you back a pretty penny...but then again, they will last you the rest of your life, AND you can pass them on to the next generation of freaks. They'll probably outlast us all, after the giant earth meltdown, they'll just be New Rock Boots, and cockroaches.
Try Ebay. -

Re: The perfect playa boot

just a bunch of boot-wearing, twinkie-eating cockroaches.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 11:14 PMI read your profile, by the way...wanted to see the person from which such a frightening vision of the future could come.
Neato. You seem like a fabulous person. What is it about Arizona that makes for such fabulous burner girls? -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 12:42 AMHeatherLyn, why thanks, babe. back atchya. :) and I'm not entirely sure what makes AZ burner girls so fab. my guess is it's the cactus. those dang cuddly saguaro cactus. what is it about SF that makes for such rockin chicks? oh, and Dr. Bronners is supreme. if it survived the apocalypse, it would surely battle those boot-twinkie cockroaches. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 11:19 AMI think I'm going to have to spend some time with Photoshop, creating a post-apocalyptic scene of the valiant battle of Dr. Bronners against those danged boot-twinkie-cockroaches. ;-)
I think it's the fog in SF, that keeps us moisturized and cool and happy. ;-)
But of course, I LOVE dry heat, so....who knows?

Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 4:07 PMPlatforms rock!! especially if there isn't a huge difference between the height of the foot vs heel area. I'm purchasing a pair of 5 1/2" platform sandals. Open toes, without all the playa ;)
The only downside is that if the boots does't have good ankle support you can seriously twist your ankle. . . .word to the clumsy: take your time walking, it's the playa, no reason to hurry (that's my motto and I'm sticking to it)
Oh, and when you need to pick something off the ground, everything is further away. . . .get a slave to pick up things for you ;) -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 6:49 PMIt's a long way down.
I broke my 7" glitter platform boots - twisted my ankle. Luckily the platform broke off the body of the boot and I wasn't injured - but it was close. I learned to respect my platforms, and not wear them while fucked up. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 19, 2005 - 8:10 PMThe New Rock catalog doesn't seem to be working for me. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 4:39 PMAlso check out rivithead.com. I love their Drago boots by Demonia. They're cheap and they're really comfy. Not much difference between toe and heel, and I've gotten beaucoup de Mad-Max-comparing compliments from my burner boy friends.
stomp on, ladies! -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, July 20, 2005 - 5:43 PMOhh, rivithead has nice boots!!
my favorites are some knee high zipping doc martens that I got on ebay last year. I spend the whole week in those! If they had big ol thick soles, they'd be perfect. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 10:34 AMthere are two drago boots. this one:
www.rivithead.com/product_i...cts_id/363
and this one:
www.rivithead.com/product_i...cts_id/362
which one do you have? comfy is such a necessity. -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 10:55 AMThose look like exactly the same boot to me, just with different decoration on the front.

-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 11:03 AMThese are SOOOOO close to what I want:
store.nordstrom.com/product/...tique.asp
The price is about right. If only they had a chunkier heel (like Denizia pointed out), and the rubber was in black. Also, I don't think these have a zipper. They're gonna be a pain to get on and off.
*sigh*
And the search continues...

Thu, July 21, 2005 - 11:46 AMEmily* - you are the girlie sister I never had. I've incorporated many of your tips into my wardrobe...including the stompilicious Drago boots (btw I have the Drago-706).
drago dance-a-thon next time we meet! :) -

Thu, July 21, 2005 - 3:15 PMdeb love,
WHEN WILL WE BOOGIE?? You best be making an appearance at the Fringe Benefits party at Mighty on Aug 5. BLVD will be in full effect! Woot! I have the Drago 706 too, sista! We will boogie in full boot kickassness together.
I imagine the other Drago boots are exactly the same as far as comfort, they look identical only with additional decoration on the fronts. I prefer the 706 personally.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 10:59 AMThere's a guy in the Burning Man tribe that rabidly extols the virtues of Uggs every time someone asks about playa footwear... do any of you ladies have experience with them?
I'm trying to find a boot that's comfortable to walk around all day and night in, because ranger shifts are 8 hours long and last year the boots I brought actually hurt worse than just wearing boring tennis shoes. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 11:01 AMI have some fake Uggs that are lined with fur. Way too hot for the daytime, for me.
-
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 12:46 PMHow hard are the Dragos to get on and off? My ankle wont bend well on my right foot. Also thinking about these:
www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/640...c/1122.html -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 2:54 PMI can just imagine what those would look like after a week on the playa, all the fur and it just seems like they'd be harder to clean than a smooth leather boot. I like the way they look though.
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 3:17 PMif you got those suede ones in playa color, it wouldn't matter if you clean them!! haha
those look like they don't have zippers though, so i'd say they'd be hard to get on and off. the drago boots are very easy to get on and off, they zip all the way down to the sole, basically.
man, now every fly chick on the playa's gonna have the same boots as me! ;)
-
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 3:28 PMActually, emily is right, my tan suede/fur boots look pretty much the same. I just took a soft brush to dust them off a bit and they're fine.
Well, last time I saw them they were. I should probably pull them down off the shelf and start breaking them back in. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 3:59 PMI love the boots on www.funkefeet.com, but they don't give you ANY info about them. like are they leather, pleather, side zip, lace-only... what?! a fair number of boots with laces or buckles actually have a side zip for entry, but you can't tell a thing from the pic. plus, the site is a pain in the ass. doesn't work on anything but IE, which is notoriously unsafe, and you can't link directly to any of the images, so I had to go through hell to be able to post links:
sheesh. anyway.
these all seem perfect to me. chunky but low heel. but hard to tell and most are $70:

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 4:01 PMjust occured to me that those last 2 links may be the same ones posted on rivithead, but I haven't been able to access the site all day (just endlessly searches for it), so I couldn't tell. sorry if they're dups. :)
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 4:05 PMLove those, but think they're still too chunky for me... looking for something I can bike ride in. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 5:21 PMOkay, its a good thing that I have absolutely nothing to do at work lately. I think I found THE ONES!!!! But now I can't decide:
I'm liking these:
www.gargoylesclothing.com/produ...42.jpg
A little chunkier than I was hoping for but manageable. I think I'd still be able to ride a bike in them, looks like you're only walking on a 1 - 1-1/2" heel.
These look promising:
www.gargoylesclothing.com/produ...60.jpg
These are pretty damn close... though not QUITE chunky enough.
Like these, too... in Dark Cherry!!! (preeeetttty)
www.gargoylesclothing.com/produ...02.jpg
Tad pricey, but gawd, after all the looking I've been doing it may just be worth it. Damn. Its so hard being a girl. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 5:32 PMIvy, *L* sorry, I'm a "big shoe" girl. I dig the first link. I don't think those would be uncomfortable to walk in. the heel ratio is pretty low. and they look more resilient than the others. though the 3rd link looks like it has those hook laces (to speed lace) which could be more managable. I think the 2nd link is beautiful, but likely to be fucked all up after a few days. :) -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 7:35 PMAre boots with separate heels easier to manage than platforms? How does it work on bike pedals?
I have found that zip boots are the way to go. You head into a tent or dome and you can shuck em instantly, and on the way out, you are wearing yours while your friends are all lacing theirs up.
The fur lined ones looked really cool, but I was just imagining sweating in them.
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 10:10 AMDynomite... first off, OMG, LOVING THE NEW COSTUME PICS!!!! HOT!!!
Second... why do you think the 2nd boot would get fucked up? My biggest concern with that one is that the heels are rubber and may not be as comfortable or manageable on playa. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 10:36 AMIvy, the second boot looked more of a refined, dress design. they remind me a lot of riding boots. very classic. they look like they have a dress-quality leather, instead of a motorcycle-type leather. if that makes any sense. was just thinking that those boots are probably great for off-playa excursions (work, parties, etc.). while the first and third look like they could take more rough and tumble without getting the leather damaged. just m2c from looking at the pic, though.
:)
oh, and thanks, re: the pics. it's so funny, at first I was hesitant to post them coz I thought "I don't want everyone knowing what I'll be wearing. what if someone copies them?" *L* like anything is so fab that the entire tribe community is going to be duplicating my designs. I'm so silly.
I'm starting the first jumpsuit today. yikes. was cutting the pattern last night and once I finished I thought "omg, I now have to cut FOUR MORE panels like this." *L* not including the cuffs and boots. sheesh. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 11:26 AMGirl, if I could sew, and had the bod to pull it off, I would SOOOO steal your design.
As for the boot, yeah, they do look like a softer leather. They're soooo close to what I want though... mostly I'm worried about the heel not being rubber. *sigh* Plus, not sure I want to buy $200 boots over the internet. That's something I really want to try on first. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 11:48 AMgirl, what the hell you talkin 'bout? *cough* louvre.tribe.net/tribe/upl...2460208d83 *cough*
sheesh. with that bod, you don't need costumes. silly grrl. ;) guess it's a good thing for me you can't sew. *L*
and yeah, $200 w/o trying them on is hard. I usuallyl have to try on 6 pairs of boots of similar styles before I can find one that fits right. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 12:45 PMLOL, thanks but that was LAST year. I'm now almost 2 years into a very happy relationship and it shows. :-)
And yeah, I have a VERY high instep which causes one of the bones on the top of my feet to protrude rather high. Its kinda freakish. Boots that aren't soft enough just crunch down on it. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 4:58 AMJust so had to say... Thank god i'm not the only one who's bod has started to settle into a happy relationship! What the hell is that all about? Single= slim and sexy (sometimes)... relationship= love handles and less clubbing!! WHY!!! -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 5:10 PMI third that motion!

But, yeah, no hot pants for me anymore...

Fri, July 22, 2005 - 5:30 PMHmm. So my red "Bond Girl" Fluevogs would definitely be out, then?
www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1150310/c/3.html
I've been toying with the idea of bringing them, but I really don't want them destroyed! A bit, um, "lived in" would be okay, a few scuffs... Think they'd really get trashed? -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 25, 2005 - 6:13 PMI'm taking my Maxi-Bond Girl black boots to the playa. I've had other good leather boots out there before and they've come back just fine :) If you can't wear them every where, that did you buy them for??
I'll also have 3 pairs of 5" platform boots and 1 pair of 5" platform sandals. . .. we'll see what gets worn the most :) -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, July 25, 2005 - 6:56 PM"If you can't wear them every where, that did you buy them for?? "
Hell if I know! You're absolutely right - I'm bringing them! Lord knows I wanted to. That yours didn't get completely destroyed is good to know. Thanks, Kimberly!
Other than that, I'm bringin' my uber comfy/wooly mocassins (even though they're black suede - they will make me so happy I don't care if they turn playa colored) and a pair of Clarks desert boots and a pair of sandals. I am NOT shopping for more shoes when I'm gonna spend a fortune just on survival stuff. Whew!

Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, August 9, 2005 - 11:29 PMi wore my fluevog cowboy boots out to the playa twice. (the ones with the platform soles) they were awesome for roaming around, night or day. When I got home, I had them shined by one of the guys down on market st. what a treat! they held up to the heat, dust and still look good some 4+ years later.

They don't lace all the way to the knee but they're pretty damn close. And hey, you can't beat the cost: $38.00 !!!! Plus I got them AT the store so I saved on shipping!
Wearing them now and they're really comfortable. I'm a happy girl.
One less thing to think about ...

Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, July 22, 2005 - 5:22 PMI don't own any Uggs. What I do have is a pair of Clark's "Rainsoft" moccasins. They're a similar idea, only everybody doesn't have a pair! I got 'em from Zappos. I put those puppies on whenever I want a little mood enhancer. They're suede, sheepskin lined, with a sole that feels like a slipper. They're one of those "so ugly they're cute" things. I really, really want to bring them with me for night time romping (much too warm for day), but they're black and I'm afraid they'll be some other color by the time I get home. Still, I may not let that stop me. DAMN! are they comfy! -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Sat, July 23, 2005 - 1:09 PMi just ordered the drago 709 off rivithead, it was about $20 cheaper there than any other site i found 'em. thank you so much for all the links, my perfect playa boots (3" platform mid-length front zippered with reflective tape for trim!) have been slowly dying for years and i'm a little scared to wear them again, although they may in fact come with me to be burned (don't worry, they're leather and wood, nothing nasty). so i've been hunting off and on for awhile, i'll let you know how the dragos fit, they look pretty close to what i've had in mind. and i definitely want to know where the drago sistah stomp will be!

Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 10:57 AMOn the note of suede (or other not easily cleanable materials) - can anyone speak from experience about how easy or difficult it is to "restore" these types of shoes after the playa? I am thinking about bringing some boots that are a suede like material, but I am wondering how to clean them or whether I will be able to use them for "normal" wear after BM. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 11:13 AMI have this idea that if you put some of that suede waterproofing stuff on the boots, then dust might come off more easily later. Is that a wacky idea? I'm planning to try it, anyway. Also, a decent suede brush ought to get most of the dust off. I think I'll bring mine and use it on the playa, rather than let a week's worth of dust build up and get ground in. Should work the same on materials that are suede-like. Then again, we might find we have better things to do than clean our damn shoes on the playa! :) -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 12:13 PMin my experience, a shoe worn on the playa is playfied forever. last year i bought a pair of low boots at a thrift store, and by the end of the week, they were so far gone with playa dust that i just kept 'em in a bag that i'll drag out again. cleaning shoes on the playa? nah, not for me.
and you ladies with the platforms... they're cool looking but dang hard to walk in... i have aging aching feet, but i'm psyched because i found a pair of super-cheap jungle boots, made for men (so they're wide in the foot) online -- www.american-armynavy.com/BootJ...le.htm -- for less than 20 bucks, a comfortable pair of walking boots. can't beat that. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 5:22 PM"and you ladies with the platforms... they're cool looking but dang hard to walk in... i have aging aching feet, "
I can relate to that at times, I always make sure I have insoles with arch support for my flat feet and with extra cushion everywhere else. And I always have at least one pair of low sole shoes with me.
When purchasing platform boots I make sure they have contoured heels and toes so I can roll my foot when walking :) Makes them a bit easier to walk in.

-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 2:23 PMI wore a pair of dark brown suede mocs on the playa last year. They were sooooooo comfortable.
However, they got completely playafied. I tried brushing them when I got home and it was no good. I don't think they'll ever be the same. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 2:46 PMWell, I think I'm wiling to sacrifice mine anyway. A gal's gotta weigh how much her shoes are worth in ordinary life vs the playa. I plan to be as comfy/happy as I can be for that week, and deal with the consequences later... Honestly, my mocs aren't a vital necessity in SF. I got 'em for occassional trips to colder locales, and if they get playa-fied, I'll just chalk it up to good livin'... -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 5:34 PMMad,
Yeah, that's why i took my brown ones and not my black. I wear my black at home all the time but the brown ones rarely so I was willing to sacrafice them to the playadust gods. -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 10:39 AMGood call!
I get those blue gel insoles, I put them in all my stompy boots. They ROCK!
Word to the wise - I have to get the men's ones for the bigger boots, since they're so wide and roomy around the toes -- the ladies ones are made for little dainty tapered shoes. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 1:10 AMsuperfeet are also amazing insoles... last time i checked you can buy them at rei or nordstrom. they look like they'll hurt cause they're stiff but they're super comfy, can be cut down to size for your shoes, and oh wow do they do wonders for your feet and spine :)
hey does anyone have those cubby boots? are they hard to take on/off since they don't have a zipper? and is it real fur?

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 8:50 AMi love those shoes but when i tried them on, they were hard as a rock on the soles of my feet and i couldn't imagine walking anywhere in them.
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 9:39 AMSeveral friends have them and always put insoles inside :) Remember insoles are your feets best friends. . . . especially at BM since you have to walk EVERYWHERE and biking doesn't make it any easier on your feet.
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 11:25 AMI have these boots and I love them. They do have a side zipper, so taking them on/off is no problem. The laces are mostly decorative but you can use them to tighten or loosen the boots a bit if you need to. I wore them all the time on the playa last year and my feet were fine, though they are totally flat on the bottom so there's no arch support (insoles are a great idea.)
But, I have to tell you that the fur is real. I realized when I got them and couldn't bear to send them back... -

i think you'd be fine biking in those -- i bike to work every day and the other day i biked in wearing my drago 3-1/2 inch platforms with no problems, i just had to raise the seat a couple inches! :)
my problem is how i'm gonna bike in my floorlength bronze latex and chinese silk dress i'm making...

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 1:47 PMYeah, biking was no problem. The heel is only 2 1/2 inches, which is lower than a lot of other platforms I've seen.

Thu, July 28, 2005 - 4:38 PM"Were you able to bike ride in them with the platform? "
I was wearing 5" platfroms half the time, biking was just fine :) it's the sitting down on chairs or the ground that's a challenge. . . it's a long ways down ;)

Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 6:10 PMso does anyone have experience with uggs on the playa? I'd be more than happy to bring those happy cozy boots.......... but it does seem it would get HOT. and if it retains the dirt on the inside, that sucks, although I do have the ultra brand where the insoles can be replaced. -

Tue, August 16, 2005 - 8:49 PMLast year I wore these:
store.botachtactical.com/9trmabo.html
I hated them on concrete or asphalt, only brought them because I didn't care if they got trashed. My feet were sooo grateful, I bought a second pair this year, just for the Playa! They are fantastic!

Re: The perfect playa boot
Fri, August 5, 2005 - 11:55 AMMy favorite platforms are my 6" lui chiny classic ankle boots, model 7275. They've got great rubber soles with a little give for added cushion and a curved up toe platform that makes it super easy to walk & dance the night away. Good luck finding them on-line, but I think they still sell them in the store on upper haight. -

Tue, August 9, 2005 - 10:55 PMI think so Kelly- last I checked they still sell those at Isabel shoes on Haight. Very cute.

Tue, August 9, 2005 - 7:33 PMTheda, happy to share! I love mine... and good job on the price!!!
I recommend that you wear them around before you get to the playa to break them in. They feel great on my feet, but the leather is still stiff around the ankle. Just need to soften 'em up a bit.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 10, 2005 - 12:04 AMDoes anyone have any opinions or experiences with suede boots? I found some slip on, tall, suede black boots with fake fur on the inside and a low chunky heel...but I'm not sure how it will hold up on the playa as compared to the leather ones that most everyone has? -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 10, 2005 - 6:37 AMI think that earlier in this thread it was mentioned that those would be very hard to keep clean and/or clean up later compared to smooth leather boots.
On another note:
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
I have no idea how well that link is going to work, but the point is that they're leather, they're up to my thigh, and they have no huge heel to speak of. -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 10:00 AMWhoah. Guys, I seriously reccomend some of you check this company out. The boots I ordered just showed up, and they were not in fact real leather. What they were was even better. They're some sort of manmade material that I can picture keeping me pretty toasty at night, with a thin layer of some sort of superabsorbent foam for when I'm sweating like mad during the day. The zippers don't go all the way up, either, they're just at the ankle so your feet can slide in and out easily. Best part is that they're slightly baggy on me in the leg and thigh but hold themselves up fine, and they're a little stretchy, so much larger women and slightly smaller ones could probably wear them.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 10, 2005 - 2:50 PMNemea- Do those Drago's have like "hook & eyes" across the front and all the way down? and zippers, right? Are they comfy? Do they only go up to mid shin?
I bought some suede boots yesterday, but I don't think I should keep them since the suede could retain dust and moisture more than leather. I may return them, and get some leather ones.

Thu, August 11, 2005 - 12:06 AMNemea- that's actually where I was looking at them, but couldn't really tell from that one photo..and there's no details about the boot..just trying to decide btw the 706 and 709. -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 12:27 AMIt is all one molded piece (with zipper) except for the little strap in front, which is held on by elastic. -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 12:33 AMSilly me! What was I thinking! There are indeed hooks and eyes, but they are totally non-functional. The various pieces are sewn together. The back has a strip of tape with a loop at the top like work boots. I can't get my finger in the loop. The little strap across the front can actually be removed from the hooks.
The boot is lined with fleece, and has a very supportive inner sole.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 2:32 PMok, i got my drago 709's a little while back, and i think they are going to do just fine for me, although i cut off the useless fake strappy thing at the ankle immediately. i found it a better fit without it, and less restrictive of movement. the side zipper is great. the shoe part feels better with insoles, and has plenty of room for thick socks at night. it's a little tight around the calf for me (why do they always make for such skinny mini legs?), but i've been wearing them around as much as possible to stretch it, and it's not so tight it's uncomfortable. i love the nubbly little bumps on the soles. so far so good with bike riding too, although since i'm 4'11" on a good day, i'm pretty used to riding in platforms all the time anyway.....
thanks for all the advice, i am pretty jazzed to have some new bitchin boots this year. i'm thinking of using velcro strips to attach fur or fabric or whatnot at the top so i can dress my boots to suit my mood, and i think the little stripe that runs around the platform just begs for some holographic nail polish.
yay!

Mon, August 15, 2005 - 4:59 AMGot my NaNa boots on Friday, and wore them that night - OH MY GOD are they comfortable! I thought they'd be hard on my feet but noooooo...they're great.
I need to figure out something to wear under them though, to keep them from marking up my calves too much - maybe just some knee high nylons? -
-
Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, August 15, 2005 - 6:43 AMTry coolmax knee highs. You might have to search a bit. Depending on how high your boots go, you could try the long soccer socks.

Re: The perfect playa boot
Mon, August 15, 2005 - 8:10 AMtheda... marking up your calves? Do you mean just creating lines and such or is something else going on?
I do get a lot of indentations, where the zipper is, the fold, etc. But nothing permanent! -

Wed, August 17, 2005 - 2:09 PMI have wide calves but average size feet. Anyone have any links on places that carry cute boots that will accomodate large calves? I am ecspecially looking for planium glitter boots. or black that are flat and/or a very low platform. Flat black lace ups would be cool. Ideas? Thanks Glitter -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 2:22 PMGlitter, I bought flat black lace-ups for CHEAP at www.hottopic.com. They lace up to almost the knee and have zippers for easy in and out. Pretty comfy too!!! -

Re: The perfect playa boot
Wed, August 17, 2005 - 3:46 PMOooh! Those are SOOO cute! And I happen to have a store right around the corner from work. Ugh, if only I wasn't so broke.
I wonder though if they would protect your feet from playa dust. I guess if you were wearing socks???? My feet are SOOOO sensitive. We were sweeping last year's playa dust out of our tent last weekend and I was wearing flip flops. Within an hour I had burning between the toes.
