okay, so now it's been washed but it feels like it got burnt on the playa. of course dying it a bunch of colors beforehand didn't help! suggestions sought on hair care treatments to make the brillo pad feel like hair again. i feel like my hair is like the barbie's at the barbie wine bistro and death camp.

Try some deep conditioning treatments from the drugstore.

Palmer's deep conditioning (comes in little packets), stick it on your hair and blowdry it on low heat (or wrap in a hot steamy towel), or sit in the sun with it in plastic wrap. Or, the Henna and Placenta packets of stuff, if you're not grossed out by the idea of putting placenta on your head. It works really well.

Alternately, google around online for some homemade deep conditioning stuff- usually contains some variant of mayo, avocado, egg, etc etc....but just FYI, avocado on hair is a waste of a delicious avocado, and feels disgusting and slimy trying to get out of your hair. Shudder.

Also, a haircut (trim) will work wonders, too.

Even if it's been washed with shampoo you might not yet have all the playa out. Rinse with diluted lemon juice, suds up with a gentle shampoo & slather on a conditioner for 5 minutes (I use Bumble + Bumble Coconut). That should help!

Dang. I just tried a new conditioner, and it seriously made a difference in my utterly destroyed hair: Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner. I had tried an olive oil masque, but that barely made a dent in it until I tried this stuff.

Just another hair trick I learned this year that helped the quality of my hair after the burn:

I use really good shamp and conditioner and instead of brushing my hair out before I shampoo it, brush it out AFTER. Dont completely rinse the conditioner out, then when you brush it, the knots and plyaya dreads come out more easily. OK, MAYBE I WAS JUST DUMB and never realized this, but it saved my hair a few inches.....I cant believe I did it the other way around for so many years. Im going to do that AT Burning Man when I return to BRC, as well. (I have fairly curly hair)
