hey!

so i was thinking about previous discussions on great music finds.

a friend recently tuned me into radio nova; a parisian radio station that streams live online. it's pretty groovy. the dj's play quite an ecletic mix - perfect for toodling around the house, cleaning, or getting pumped for a night out. sometimes it's mellow too.

enjoy!

    MUSIC, YAY !!

Completely musically astray from anything you hear at Burning Man, yet COMPLETELY Burny in my mind, I discovered this band while prepping for BMan this year. The New Pornographers. (male and female vocals, rock and roll pop)

They now totally are my subliminal private Burning Man soundtrack for this year. All of the lyrics are oddly Burny Bernie dreamscape songs about Fires in the Street, the fables on my street, We are the challengers, Sing me spanish techno, I am in love with this band. If youre curious, here are the dowloads. I got both of these albums and I treated it as one, so get both if you likey.

Its uncanny, check em out if you like Neko Case and or great poetry and totally awesome catchy music.

Here are some more recent discoveries of mine that are kinda burny:
    Beats Antique
    Random Rab: Arose
    Zero 7: The Garden
    Shpongle remixed
    Cheb I Sabbah
Animal Liberation Orchestra: Fly Between Falls (Listen to BBQ=Totally like way major Burny)

and, I have to throw in my favorite band, Railroad Earth. Check out Seven Story Mountain off of Black Bear sessions. This song changed my life the way Bman did. :)

I've been getting heavy into glitch lately--there is life beyond the glitch mob!! Two of my favorites are Pretty Lights and Big Gigantic. The best part is that you can download their albums for free from their myspaces.

      www.myspace.com/biggigantic

The other thing I came across recently that rocked my world is a mashup album of Notorious B.I.G. and Frank Sinatra. It's well done and totally hilarious, especially because the guy who did it took care to mix songs with similar subject matter. So much goodness.

Also, if anyone knows the song 99 luftballons (english version is called 99 red balloons) there's a section of the lyrics that translates roughly to:
"It's all over, and I'm standing pretty
In the dust that was a city"
which uber-reminds me of the burn

Nice pick on the Pretty Lights. I saw him at High Sierra Music Fest (best music fest ever) and enjoyed him a lot. The free downloads are awesome, too.

Still need to check out Big Gigantic. Colorado WHUT?

OK GIRLS, DO ME A FAVOR AND LISTEN TO THIS GEM!!!

This is Animal Liberation Orchestra doing a song called Barbeque. Listen to the LYRICS and feel the GROOVE. I played this at BMan this year and everyone loved it. It is, IMO, the most BURNY song without the writer actually being at BMan. SOOOO GOOOD, listen, especially if you want a break from the untztuntzuntz:

            www.imeem.com/artists/alo...ra-barbeque/

The road is long and windy,
            Like a good mystery unfolding
            It twists and turns
            In colorful subplots and sunburns
            And fake out endings
And sometimes my patience in the whole process starts bending

As I attempt to unravel the web
By rehearsing and reversing and perversing and traversing
Along the doubt laden extension chord threads
            Of my life

And in this life we're free to dream what ever we want to
But that doesn’t' mean that your dreams are gonna come true
Instead as a way of getting us to move
Life dangles your dreams in front of you
And unable to resist the temptation
            We continue

And it's clear to me that this life is gonna be
All about the dangling possibilities that keep turning in and turning out

Yes it's clear to me that this life is gonna be all
About the dangling possibilities that keep turning in…
The road is long and windy
            Full of twists and turns
But before you can rise from the ashes
You've got to burn baby burn

            Welcome to your Barbecue
Where we roast all the dreams that never came true
            Welcome to your Barbecue
Pig out and dream a new

Welcome to you're, welcome to you're, welcome to you're barbecue…
