Ok ladies its June and we are less than 100 days away from the playa.
Its time to get organized and plan our annual meet greet pamper and play together event.
History- Goddess gathering began in 2004 when the members of the burning women tribe wanted to meet. We named it goddess gathering in deference to the loving way Bare calls us all goddess'. What this event has always been is members of this tribe bringing something to share with each other and casualy enjoying our time together.
What can you bring? ANYTHING!
Popular choices
wine
tea, lemonade, other beverages
snacks of all types cookies, chips, crackers, cheese, fruit etc.
pretty stuff.... nail polish, foot stuff, vinegar, pipe cleaners, ribbons, bindis, face paint, henna

Sun, June 7, 2009 - 1:07 PMBefore three years ago, I never managed to make it to a Goddess Gathering. I wanted to, but somehow playatime always got in the way. Two years ago a dear friend of mine was with us, and we knew it was likely her last Burningman. She didn't have a lot of physical strenghth... thankfully the gathering was close by at the Iron Rose, and she was able to join us. Seeing her relax, and be so warmly welcomed and taken care of by all of the women present has left a deep, loving, everlasting impression on my heart. She was unable to attend Burningman last year, and sadly this year, she is no longer with us. I know that participating in this event meant a lot to her, and it contributed immensely to her happiness at her last burn.
I wouldn't miss it for the world. -

Mon, June 8, 2009 - 7:00 PMI wish my camp could, but I know our infrastructure just isn't conducive to this type of event. Has the gathering ever been held in a public space? Center Camp can be a bit overwhelming because it's so crowded, but it is an option. Are there any other public spaces that might work for us?
Or maybe... and I'm just thinking outside the box here... we could pull off a cacophony version of the Goddess Gathering. We pick a camp we like, and descend upon them. We bring all the goods, all the women, all the love. Spend an hour or so gracing their space with our presence, and of course, showering them with our gratitude. And when we decide it's time to go... we leave no trace.
Hmmmm... okay, enough beer for me tonite!

Mon, June 8, 2009 - 7:24 PMWe did meet the first year, in 2004, at Center Camp. It was a little crowded/voyeuristic, with a crowd gathering around. Not exactly bad, but it was a challenge to pamper each other "in public".
I'm kind of liking the idea of a cacophony version ... do you have a specific camp in mind? -

Mon, June 8, 2009 - 7:47 PMI don't at the moment... but once theme camps are announced and placed, I bet we could find one that seems like the right place and just hit it. If we did go this route, we probably wouldn't want a public announcement... we'd pick a camp and send a private message to all the BurningWomen and leave it at that. Of course, we'd have to give some thought to the communication, so we all know where to go without alerting our perspective target. -

No, but I accept and understand Bare's explanation of the term and what it means to her (I don't know who originally called it that, but Bare's explanation is the one I remember from previous discussions of the term)
Plus besides also, my goal at Burning Man this year is to do one thing every day that makes me uncomfortable. And going to a thing named a Goddess Gathering = uncomfortable! I'm sure it'll be fun actually BEING there though! :-p -

see ya there. Oh! btw, there is planned to be at 417 and DNA, or 417 and B, or close to that. there will be a flag in front of our camp that say "417" and in smaller print on the flag. "Bare's Camp"
will confirm before we head out there. AND, will also put it on hte playa puters, so ya can look us up...

my plan is to be at 417 and D (DNA)
look for the "flag" that says 417 and in small print "Bare's Camp!"
There will also be another flag with planets on it that says "Satelite Camp" its a very colorful little flag, it should help identify us

I was surprised there were so few people there (~10?) but I guess Wednesday is a busy day! -

And Anne, it was a hoot to meet you. O Hai! I really think you need some fun socks, like monkeys or princesses, to go with your Gate outfit ;) -

Wed, September 9, 2009 - 9:01 PMmy wednesday became known as 3 mission fail wednesday. Missing the gathering was the first of botched plans on the playa.
i started the afternoon with my bike basket loaded with homemade chocolate covered bacon (nestled in a small cooler) for the goddess gathering, but ended up not being to find bare's camp =( i had written down 417 and B (instead of D, as blysse informed me during a random meeting at fishbug later in the week). le sigh, but at least i tried this year! and the folks on 4'ish/B were quite delighted with the gifts.
sounds like ya'll had a lovely time!
oh yes, and brody, i saw you at BYB but didn't want to interrupt your book time to say hello...hope yer burn was a good one!
