Like everyone else, Im trying to save the world. yay for saving the world!
I made a (not for profit, just for education) website about alternative feminine hygiene products. If you are so inclined (I hate plugs but I have to), check out saynotopads.googlepages.com

Sun, May 11, 2008 - 11:39 AMAmelia, I love the site, but would also like to see Sea Pearls on there as well ( sea sponge tampons) -
-
Re: feedback about alternative period products
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 5:09 PMI had never heard of sponges referred to as tampons, though I've used them before. I found this site when I Googled "Sea Pearls tampon": www.jadeandpearl.com/catalog...info.php
Cool! :) -

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 5:43 PMI thought the site was great...until I saw the John McCain ad at the bottom...although now that I think about it John McCain on a site dedicated to menstrual products IS pretty ironically entertaining...

Sun, May 11, 2008 - 4:56 PMMmmn! Another flannel pad lover!
...and here I thought I was the only one in blissful comfort.
(you can make longer ones for night-time, eh. Perfect for bloom-time sleepies.)

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 10:55 AMI never tried the Diva Cup, but I used to use Instead. They're hard to find now. The cool thing is you could have non-messy sex during that time of the month wearing one :P

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 4:42 PMI love my diva cup too!!! With a little flannel back up for overnight. :)
As for sex, it's not like the instead, but if there's no penetration it's perfect!

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 5:47 AMThank you so much for posting this. I have a tipped cervix and regular tampon are incredibly painful. I asked my GYN about the sea pearls and he thinks they would be the perfect answer to avoiding the whole "uncomfortable pad" thing.

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 6:25 PMI've been wondering about the difference between the Diva Cup and the Keeper/Moon Cup. anyone seen or used both?
btw, I just went to the Gyn today and asked her if she knew about any problems or issues using a menstrual cup. She said unfortunately she hasn't had any patients ask about them so she doesn't know. But on the upside that also means that she hasn't heard of any problems, complications, or infections from them. They seem safe to me, but I thought I'd ask.

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Wed, June 18, 2008 - 9:31 AMHey all! Hadnt checked this forum in a while. Thanks SO MUCH for the feedback! I would love to add some info about sponges, especially if I can get some first hand info from a user. The site is slowly getting put together (between two jobs and school) but feel free to message me any info youd like to include. Also, Im still working out the *kinks* with adsense. I tried to specify mooncup/keeper/divacup/lunapads/ etc. ads but it seems to do whatever it wants! It picks up key words (blood, maybe?) and puts on ads that seem applicable. For a while, there was an add about military gear with guns and stuff. I laughed, in fear. Ha.
THANKS AGAIN!!!
P.S. Theres a picture that shows the difference btwn the shape of all of the "cups" on the site. Check it out :) -

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Fri, June 20, 2008 - 10:46 AMWhat an awesome forum! Thanks for this :)
I love my keeper and sponges for heavy days when I'm forced out into the world. My most preferred method is being able to bleed onto something and if I'm able to be at home and not worrying about bleeding thru, I use some wash clothes that I cut out in the shape of winged pads. They're comfortable and easy to rinse out (then throw in the wash).
I've had the recurring blessing of stepping onto the playa and starting my period (even out of cycle). The energy is so influencing out there! Anyone else have this experience? I used my keeper both years it happened and it was a bit traumatising reaching into my cunt inside a port-a-potty, I think I evolved to taking it out at camp and then proceeding to the potties. Messy, messy business.
*..happy bleedin'..*

Re: feedback about alternative period products
Fri, June 20, 2008 - 2:36 PMI am ALWAYS on the rag for Burning Man. I think this year will be my fifth trip out there...?
-
Re: feedback about alternative period products
Mon, June 30, 2008 - 12:36 PMI was right there with you!
...except, I didnt find the port-a-potty emptying experience to be that bad. hmmm....I would bring extra water and wet wipes in to wash my hands and rinse the cup but I was experiencing a really light flow. The only downside for me was feeling completely drained the night of the Man burning. Grr. We'll see what happens this year!
Thanks again for the tribe love!
